Ronda Rousey may finally be headed to WWE. It has long been expected that the former UFC women's bantamweight champion would make the move to professional wrestling after her career in the octagon was over. Now it looks like it's happening.
USA Today is reporting Rousey is in the midst of finalizing a deal with WWE. Rousey has made several appearances at WWE events over the years, but has never competed before. She has even trained with WWE stars in the past.
No details are yet available on what the 30-year-old's role would be. It is not known if she'd become a full-time member of the WWE roster or a part-timer who makes spot appearances. Her most effective role might be similar to that of Brock Lesnar who appears several times a year in big matches.
Rousey hasn't competed in mixed martial arts since being knocked out by Amanda Nunes in 48 seconds at UFC 207. That fight took place on December 30, 2016 and came more than a year after Rousey suffered her first career defeat, a knockout loss to Holly Holm in November of 2015. Virtually no one believes Rousey will ever fight in the octagon again and UFC president Dana White has even said he doesn't want to see her make a comeback.
Rousey is a perfect fit for the WWE, and this makes the most sense as the next step in her career.
